Course Overview:
This is an intensive course covering what you need to know to dive into a career of animation and interactive game voice acting. This class is specifically designed to assist experienced and professional actors in building a vocal repertoire of characters. The goal of the class is for each actor to develop at least 10-14 distinct voices by the end of the workshop. During the course, actors will expand their stable of characters. By the end of the class, they will have gained the essential materials, tools, and expertise to successfully perform a general agent or casting director audition. Additionally, they will have made significant progress toward creating a compelling animation demo that will enhance their voiceover career.
The voice over industry is going strong! We are back to work in the studios again and since the pandemic, remote sessions are now forever a part of a voice actor’s future. This class will teach you how to put a professional home studio together according to your needs/budgets and what to expect in a number of different remote record session scenarios.
Prior voice acting experience is not required but prior acting experience is a prerequisite due to the amount of information that is covered and the accelerated pace of the class.
Master Voice Acting by Doing it!:
In my classes, rather than giving long lectures, I believe in an experiential approach to learning voice acting. You need to actually do it and experience it in your body, in order to learn it. My top priority is that my students get as much coached recorded mic time as possible. For this reason, I implement a flipped classroom style where essential material regarding V.O. Acting and the V.O. Business is emailed ahead of time and read by the student prior to class. Discussion and answering of questions will be included but the main emphasis of the class is one on one coaching.
Each day of the workshop will focus on a particular aspect of the animation voice over business. The course culminates with a simulated general audition where the actor will perform 10-14 characters back to back in front of the class. Students will be well prepared after this experience to perform a general audition in front of an agent or casting director. After the class, some students choose to retake the workshop, work with me privately to expand their character repertoire, receive audition coaching, or prepare and record their animation demos. Homework:
Homework will be assigned each week. Students who want to gain the most out of the workshop should plan on taking the class at a time when their schedules allow time for extra work outside of class. During the class, I work individually with each student and carefully select scripts that will show off their strengths and develop their talent. I strive to create a fun, supportive atmosphere in my workshops. Nothing makes me happier than seeing my students have that breakthrough moment and I love hearing about their successes long after the class ends.
